Election Integrity: Call to Action, June 4th, 6:00pm

Small Effort, Big Impact:

Election integrity remains the #1 issue for voters in Cherokee County. Often, it seems like there’s little we can do as citizens to affect or improve the process, but fortunately, now is one of those times when a tiny bit of feedback makes a big difference.

BACKGROUND

In Georgia, elections are conducted by the Board of Elections, which is comprised of 4 members appointed by the County Board of Commissioners. (The County board of Commissioners are elected by you, the voters, to oversee all aspects of county governance. One of the things they do is appoint members to the Board of Electors (BOE), who are called “BOE Members”).

The BOE is responsible for ensuring election integrity in Cherokee Country, including voter registration, setting up polling places, training poll workers, and counting and certifying election results.

Cherokee County leans heavily Republican and all four County Commissioners ran successfully as Republicans. Yet despite this, only two of the four BOE positions have been filled by Republicans in the past. This imbalance has led to the appointment of a progressive activist lawyer, known for representing Fulton County, also representing the Cherokee County board of elections in the past.

The Cherokee County Republican Party believes it is essential to ensure that the BOE reflects the will of the voters, who have clearly chosen Republican leadership. We are urging all members to provide feedback to our elected commissioners, expressing our collective desire for election integrity and the appointment of Republicans to the BOE. Two of the four BOE slots are currently open and slated for appointment on June 4th, so this is our chance to advocate for a Republican majority on the board.

While some argue that appointing an equal number of Democrats to the BOE would be fair, we firmly believe that Republicans were voted into these positions to oversee our elections precisely because they do a better job of ensuring election integrity. It is crucial that the commissioners fulfill their duty by appointing Republicans to the BOE, particularly those who will represent our interests during elections as lawyers.

CALL TO ACTION

We have organized a poll to make it easy for party members to convey their views to the commissioners so they can better reflect the will of the voters who elected them. If you’re a member, please reply to this poll by clicking here. If you’re not a member, please sign up by clicking here!

Finally, regardless of whether you’re a member or not, please attend the next County Commissioners meeting on June 4th at 6:00pm at “The Bluffs”, located at 1130 Bluffs Pkwy, Canton GA 30133.  Item 7.3 on the agenda concerns the commission’s appointment of members to the Board of Elections, (see item 7.3, here)

Your presence will serve as a silent “show of force” to underscore our commitment to and attention to the cause of election integrity in Cherokee County and this one little effort will actually make a difference.

Together, we can make a difference to ensure that our elections remain fair and transparent for everyone.

Thank you for your support and active participation.

Sincerely,

Jason Bruce Jones
